Support the green capital!

The EU Commission in Brussels has made Hamburg its European Green Capital of 2011. Far from being merely an award, the aim of this title is to motivate people to play a part in environmental protection in our city.

The Grand Elysée has become a member of the UmweltPartnerschaft (environmental partnership) project in order to make our green city on the Elbe river a little bit greener. And as a forward-thinking hotel, the Grand Elysée is setting new standards. Systematic waste separation, water-saving tap aerators in all the rooms, and energy-saving cooling and residual heat systems have been standard in the hotel for some time now.

And since 2009, the Grand Elysée hotel guests have quite literally been seeing the light too: the vast majority of the lights in the hotel have been replaced with state-of-the-art LED technology, resulting in a 70 per cent reduction in energy consumption. By the end of 2011, our five-star establishment will be almost entirely bathed in LED light – something which pays off for the environment, as the conversion results in a CO2reduction of 450 tonnes every year!
