The kindergarten at the Grand Elysee Hamburg

Our kindergarten in green in the middle of the city

The Elysée kindergarten is located in the basement and the mezzanine floor of a stately old villa that has been integrated into the Grand Elysée Hamburg. The kindergarten, opened as a company kindergarten in 1993, was completely renovated and expanded in 2007. In principle, we welcome all children to our kindergarten in Hamburg, but our Grand Elysée staff do have priority when kindergarten places are being allocated.

The hotel with childcare in Hamburg

Currently, a total of 48 children, ranging from eight months to school entry age, are being cared for in three separate groups.

Spacious rooms with various potential uses and a child-friendly outdoor area are available for the children in our private kindergarten in Hamburg. In addition, the children get to visit some super playgrounds and spacious green areas nearby, such as the “Planten un Blomen” park or the “Alsterwiesen” meadow.

The children are divided into three groups according to age. The youngest group is the “Küken” (fledglings) with children aged from eight months to two years. The “Papageien” (parrots) consists of children who are two or three years’ old, followed by the “Bunte Raben” (colourful ravens), aged from three to school entry age. The three groups are each supervised by one full-time and one part-time employee.

In addition, the Elysée kindergarten employs a flexible temporary assistant and a housekeeper. Carina Stegmann is the head of the kindergarten, taking care of all the organisational and administrative tasks.

An issue that is close to the heart

Your children and educational principles are very important to us at the kindergarten of the Grand Elysée Hamburg. That’s why we’d like to:

  • Have good contacts to you as parents through regular conversations
  • Prepare the children and make them better prepared for their upcoming school years
  • Communicate rules and set limits
  • Promote a focus on „the essentials”

Educational focus

The work of the Elysée kindergarten is based on the Hamburg educational recommendations. These describe how the children’s learning processes can be promoted by day-to-day kindergarten life, through playing together, in planned projects but also in a stimulating environment. Here, the educators at the Elysée kindergarten uphold the view that education is a process in which the child wants to develop on its own initiative.

The aim of the Grand Elysée kindergarten is to promote and reinforce each child’s independence and self-confidence, so that they are ideally prepared for school.

The educational recommendations distinguish between seven educational segments in which the children need to gain experience during the course of their life in the day-care facility in order to acquire basic skills. These are the following:

  • Body, exercise and health
  • The social and cultural environment
  • Communication: Languages, written culture and media
  • Visual design
  • Music
  • Mathematics
  • Nature, environment and technology

Through these diverse experiences, children learn to understand the world in which they live, to expand their skills and to face up to new challenges.

Additional offers

Other offers at the Elysée kindergarten include early musical education with “Lütte Skol” (little school) and weekly English lessons.

Meals

All the meals - from breakfast to the evening meal - are prepared by the Grand Elysée Hamburg’s hotel kitchen. The day begins between 7:30 and 9:00 a.m. with a hearty breakfast. This is followed by a freshly prepared lunch at 12:00 noon. Fresh fruit is offered as an afternoon snack at 3:00 p.m. while a pleasant dinner rounds off the day at 5:30 p.m.

The Elysée kindergarten places great importance on a balanced diet: Fresh salads or raw vegetables and fruit are served, but there must always be a sweet dessert to round things off (in moderation, of course).

Opening hours and charges

The kindergarten at the Grand Elysée Hamburg is open all year round
- with the exception of public holidays.

Monday 7:15 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Tuesday to Friday, 7:15 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.

The parental contribution is calculated on the basis of the Hamburg Kita (day-care facility) voucher system and is based, among other things, on the parents’ income and working hours. You can apply for a day-care facility voucher at the Jugendamt (Youth Welfare Office) in your district once you have received the promise of a place.

Dear interested parties, dear parents,

Unfortunately, all the day-care places are currently taken. You are welcome to use our registration form to be placed on the waiting list. The registration form is available in the Elysée kindergarten or directly as a download here.
